Report of the OBT Bible Study and Fellowship Meeting

Sylvia Penny

It was great to be a part of the group who gathered together in Borrowash, near Derby, for a time of Bible Study and fellowship on Saturday, 25th March 2006.  Nearly twenty-five of us sat comfortably together in Janet Horobin’s living room to listen to a series of talks on Who is Jesus? These were given by Mike Penny and Willie Henry, taking it in turns to present different aspects of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and both complementing their talks with supporting powerpoint presentations and printed handouts.

Mike presented different answers that have been given to the question “Who is Jesus?”, starting with people living in New Testament times, and finishing up with people living today, and who they think He is/was.

Willie talked about Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah, first as depicted in the Old Testament, and later in the New Testament. He followed this up with John’s gospel presentation of Jesus as the Son of God. Mike then concluded with a discussion of Jesus being both Man and God, and the difficulties people have in accepting this as truth.

In the first century people had difficulty believing that He was really human. Today people have trouble believing that He was really God. It was an excellent series of four short talks, and these are available on CD (see below).

In between the talks there was plenty of time for fellowship with each other during a short tea break, and later during a longer break with light refreshments. Many people contributed towards the success of this very enjoyable afternoon, and we are hoping to carry on with more of these “mini-conferences” in the future. The next one is planned to be held in Upper Basildon, near Reading, later this year, in November 2006 - click here for details.
