Sit! Walk! Stand! A report on the OBT Bible Study and Fellowship meeting
Upper Basildon, Reading - Saturday November 25th.

By Bill Esselmont

Together with my wife Sheena, had been looking forward to our first Bible Study Conference with the OBT, particularly when we heard the subject matter would be Ephesians and the speakers Mike Penny & Willie Henry (who we had heard earlier in the year at the OBT Summer Holiday in North Wales).

Mike introduced Ephesians by using the title to Watchman Nee’s wonderful book Sit, Walk, Stand and both Willie and himself did a wonderful job of opening up the scriptures to us. How comforting and reassuring it is to know that God our Father has willed that in Christ His Son all has been done for our salvation, justification and resurrection. No more need be done, or can be done, and we can rest on the assurance of the Holy Spirit, who is our guarantee. What a hope! What an inheritance!

However, Mike reminded us that there was much more to the Christian life than sitting. We have to walk and walk worthy, and after our first break, Mike went through Ephesians chapters 4 & 5, sharing how Paul wanted us to see how our past behaviour was not part of the new creation but that it had to be put away.

Mike & Willie went on to demonstrate how clearly the Scriptures show us how we are to put off  the old man and put on the new. Willie closed on the use of the armour of God. It is to protect that which, by God’s amazing grace, we now enjoy – love, joy, peace, service, rewards etc., etc.. So let’s not forget to wear it all.

A wonderful afternoon but there was a challenge for me? Is my heart a place where God would wish to live? Would Christ feel at home there?

Note: These four talks were recorded on 2 CDs available from the Open Bible Trust at a cost of £3.00. Click here for more details.
