Around twenty of us turned up for the October Reading Conference, held at St. Stephen’s Church in Upper Basildon, whose facilities were kindly let out to us for the afternoon by the local vicar, Alan Hogarth. We had a great time of Bible studies followed by questions, fellowship and food.
There were three teaching sessions altogether, with two breaks in between, giving time for discussion and fellowship, and a chance to look at the book table with many of the Open Bible Trust publications available for purchase.
Willie Henry, who is one of the Trustees, and Mike Penny shared each double session, and talked about the effect of the resurrection on five different bible characters, showing what they were like before the Lord’s resurrection, and how they changed as a result of witnessing this most wonderful miracle of all. Each session was enhanced by a power-point presentation, and pre-printed notes giving details of all the main points and the relevant Scriptures. There were a number of interesting questions after each session, and the whole afternoon was very enjoyable and thought-provoking.
It was great to have a few people attend their first Open Bible Trust conference, together with a number of “old faces”. Most of those gathered were from the local Reading area, and it was good for these to meet one another, some for the first time. It was also good to have two other Trustees in attendance, Cliff Richmond and Vicky Wilkinson, who were available for people to meet and have a chat with.
We hope to hold more such conferences in different areas of the country, to give an opportunity for other readers to meet one another, and find out more about the work and activities of the Open Bible Trust, and to meet some of the people involved. If you would like an OBT conference in your area, please phone Mike Penny on 01491-671357, or email admin@obt.org.uk or write to The Open Bible Trust Fordland Mount, Upper Basildon, Reading, RG8 8LU.
