Each of us who attended the OBT Holiday at Brockley Hall, the Christian Endeavour Holiday Centre in Saltburn, was richly blessed. Nearly forty people, of all ages, travelled from north, south and west to spend a week of fellowship together. There were a number of new faces, and by their Christian experiences and prayers, they greatly enriched the group. Brockley Hall and grounds catered for all our physical needs and the choice of food left people 'fed up'. The weather ranged from being extremely hot to sea mists to torrential rain - and then back to sunshine again. Overall the sun was the winner and nobody was drenched, only the cars.
Together, in groups, or in families, the daytime was spent in numerous ways, these being but a few:
steam train trip |
walk on the spectacular moors |
visiting neighbouring towns |
walking and playing on the sands |
visiting National Trust properties |
bird-watching |
Back at Brockley Hall, after the evening meal, there were table tennis and putting competitions, along with an organized group activity, such as a quiz, an evening service, a biblical Call my Bluff, a Songs of Praise and on the final evening, a concert which showed off the diverse talent of many of the group. It was most enjoyable.
But the lasting memories of each day were firstly, the short study and prayer meeting before breakfast, and secondly the main study time each morning.
Mike Penny and Willie Henry took these studies, looking at how the relationship between Jews and Gentiles changed throughout the time span of the Bible. "To the Jew first", then the grafting of individual Gentiles into the olive tree of Israel and later, at the end of Acts, Paul was given a new commission to go to the Gentiles with a message of grace, within which there was no privileged position for Israel.
In fact there is neither Jew nor Gentile, but all who believed, of whatever race, are saved by grace. Miracles and healing were looked to demonstrate and emphasise how things changed over the course of the New Testament.
A thought which was prevalent throughout the week, was that knowledge of Christ Jesus should bring a response, that of acknowledging Him in our daily lives. The overall feeling of the week was one of peace and closeness to each other.
And so the Christian Endeavour Centre really lived up to its name:
Christian - One who has been saved by God's grace and forgiven by Christ's death on the cross,
and now... |
Endeavour- shows effort directed to a goal, by prayer, study and Christian fellowship,
in... |
Holiday - time set apart,to confirm that... |
Centre - Jesus is first and last, the centre of each believers being. |
Thanks to all who planned and all who came to this year's OBT Holiday. The experience was most uplifting and well strengthen each one of us through the coming months.
