The Open Bible Trust held its annual Family Holiday at Llandudno from the 26th July to the 2nd August this year. We were delighted to be once again the guests of Lionel & Doreen Phillips at the Beth Eden Guest House where our reception and comfort were, as always, superb.

Mike Penny led us in an interesting examination of 2 Timothy, but, as I understand that this is going to result in a booklet in due course, I will not expand on that and leave you to enjoy the outcome when it is published.

As 2 Timothy has only four chapters and the week has five available days for study, the Wednesday session was taken by Peter Mansell with his version of the Secret Diary of the Apostle Paul aged 60 and ¾. This 'biography' contained a lot of facts, quite a lot of speculation and a certain amount of humour (did you know that Paul had a 'Monti' and a 'Pithon' in his ancestry?) and its exposition resulted in an edifying and amusing session. What a pity that, for copyright reasons, it can't be published!

The social side of the week was its usual great success. Some of us visited a slate mine on a very wet day. The examples of the atrocious conditions and lives experienced by the miners contrasted starkly with the opulence of the upper classes of the time, viewed on the following (slightly drier) day at Bodelwyddan Castle. This was followed by the solace of a visit to the Tweedmill Factory Outlet, which it is suspected resulted in a severe pain in the wallet for some members of the party. Certainly the parents of some of the younger members were worried by the sight of them bearing piles of clothes that would have cost many hundreds of pounds! It was with great relief that these were reduced to a manageable number (in one case none!) before leaving.

Most people went their own ways during the other days, but a significant number spent the Thursday at Chester, finishing with a 'man-hunt' after one of our party disappeared from the bus touring the city! He was located quite quickly and all returned safely and on time.

The evening sessions were equally enjoyable with Mike Penny's puzzles getting everyone's brains going on Wednesday whilst the 'Call My Bluff' session on Tuesday (all genuine Biblical words) had many quite outlandish definitions, some so outlandish that they had to be right! Sylvia Penny's quiz on the Monday caused great controversy (men v women) with apparently blatantly differing standards of questions being asked of the two teams! The final result of a draw was considered by the men to be the equivalent of a resounding win. The Sunday and Friday evenings followed their usual formats, with great pleasure for all, whilst for me the highlight of the Thursday balloon debate was Mike Penny bouncing around on his knees, as Zacchaeus, until he got ejected from the balloon!

It was great to see Trustees Willie Henry for part of the week and Cliff Richmond for a couple of days. A number of the usual 'suspects' were absent this year, so we hope to see them again in the future.
