On Saturday 22nd July approximately 20 of us descended on Beechwood Court for a week of fun, fellowship & teaching, this being our first visit on an OBT holiday.
Beechwood Court is situated on the lower slopes of Conwy Mountain and is owned and operated by Christian Endeavour Holiday Centres and is in the most beautiful corner of North Wales, where Snowdonia meets the sea with most spectacular views across the Conwy estuary to Deganwy and the Great Orme at Llandudno. We could not have picked a better week for the holiday as the weather was glorious. Each one of us took full advantage of this by doing various activities. Some climbed mountains, Snowdon being one of them and Yr Ellen (see photopgraph) the other.
Some took a guided tour of Conwy Castle, whilst others went to the beach and had a swim in the sea . Some paid a visit to Chester Zoo, whilst shopping in Llandudno attracted others. There was a visit to Bodnant Gardens, with its spectacular house (see photograph). The choice of some was a cable car ride up the Great Orme (see photograph), whilst for others the tram ride was the preferred way - those who didn’t like heights!
The food was excellent with plenty of choice for breakfast (kippers for some!). For lunch most of us had packed lunches as we were out and about seeing the sights and for dinner there was a choice each day of three starters, four main courses, and four desserts. Of course, when on holiday you always eat more that you usually would and by the end of the week we were all feeling that we had gained a few pounds or more!
Following breakfast our meetings took place, starting off on the Sunday with a Family Service to which all other holiday makers were invited. Then continuing on Monday through Friday, Mike Penny & Pete Mansell gave us an overview of God’s Purpose in the Bible, which took us through the Bible with five studies entitled From Adam to Abram, The Rest of the Old Testament, The Gospels and Acts, Post Acts to Today, concluding with The Future. What a marathon! What a Blessing!.
In the evenings Mike took the children for their activity, Christian Olympics, and at 8 o’ clock each evening the adults met for their evening activity which included Getting to Know You, Songs of Praise, Call My Bluff (you wouldn’t believe the lies!), Desert Island Discs, a Family Service and a Quiz, ending it all off on the Friday night with Party Pieces, which was great fun with fellow Christians who were also staying at Beechwood Court, including families from Germany, Benin, in North West Africa, Canada, and Northern Ireland. We dedicated the evening to Lawrence and Margaret Wilson from Belfast who sadly had to leave us earlier in the week due to a bereavement in the family.
Sadly, Saturday morning came too soon and we had to say our farewells, some returning to Africa, Canada, Germany and others to parts of the UK. We look forward to the next OBT holiday which will be held at The Centre for Christ, Burstone Manor, Bow, near Crediton in Devon from August 4th to 11th, where hopefully we can all meet again.
Our thanks go to the management and staff at Beechwood Court for making our stay there so comfortable and enjoyable.
