This year the OBT annual holiday was held once again at St. Rhadagund’s, St. Lawrence, on the Isle of Wight. There were about twenty five of us and we were blessed with not only good ministry, good fellowship and good food, but this time good weather as well!
Each day started with a prayer meeting before breakfast, with those attending taking it in turns to lead. After breakfast Mike Penny and Willie Henry shared the ministry on the book of James. They outlined the background and explained its historical setting, before going through each of the five chapters verse by verse. They expounded the practical parts and explained the dispensational parts by concentrating on who it was written to, when it was written and comparing what is said in James to what is said in other parts of the New Testament – particularly in the gospels and in the Acts period. Each of these daily talks were recorded and are available for purchase—see below. A question and discussion time followed each study, with many joining in.
Later in the day most people went visiting different places of interest, or went walking, or simply went in search of ice-cream or a cream-tea! The coast line and cliff walks are second to none, and it was wonderful to be able to go out every day and enjoy God’s Creation at its best; i.e. on an English summer’s day (a biased view I know!)
Each evening different activities were provided by St. Rhadagund’s, and most of our group joined in these. They ranged from walks in the dark to see glow worms, American square dancing, a quiz night, a midweek service, and a do-it-yourself entertainment night when a number of brave volunteers performed their party pieces.
Altogether it was an excellent week, with plenty of time for fellowship, discussion, study and relaxation – a time to renew old friendships and make some new ones. Now it is over, we are already looking forward to our next one in 2009 to be held in the south of the Lake District at Grange-over-Sands! Do join us if you can. It will be our 25th year
