Search Magazine - February 2004

The Feburary 2004 edition of the magazine contained the following articles:

Editorial - Duncan McGregor
It is good to look forward at the beginning of a new year to what lies ahead - the unknown which need not be feared. As God's mercies are new every morning because of His faithfulness, so His new mercies may be experienced throughout the year with joyful thanksgiving.

I am particularly looking forward to the publications of Search this year. This month we see the close of R.B. Shiflet's concise little series looking at Paul's post-Acts letters and we begin two new short series by Willie Henry and Brian Sherring. Willie will be looking at the Lord's upper-room discourse and Brian will lay out for us a seven-fold witness to the fact that "God has spoken".

However, while we see the end of the old and welcome the new in Search, let me invite you to take advantage of two recent innovations which we can offer you to perhaps prolong your appreciation of some of our past short series and also to enable you to get more out of current articles.

If any subscriber would like any of our recent short series put together in one little booklet, e.g. Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs or Paul's Post-Acts Letters, then we can do this upon request.
An electronic version of Search and the Booklets will be made available for a subscription at the same rate as the normal one.

Hence we continue to look at ways of improving the presentation of the truths we hold dear and we are always pleased to have your feedback on anything we do. May God bless you all in the year ahead and thank you for all your good wishes and cards to us.

Psalm 119 - Vicky Wilkinson
Verses 9-16 - "Your Word have I hidden in my heart", which enables daily cleansing of the continuing effects of the 'old nature'.

Paul's Post-Acts Letters - R.B. Shiflet
The author's summaries of Paul's post-Acts letters finish with a look at Philemon, the "picture of imputation".

Sins - Sylvia Penny
The question: "Are some sins worse than others?" is addressed by considering a list of the sins which incurred the death penalty for the people of Israel in the Old Testament. How do they square today in our understanding of God?

The Upper Room Discourse - W M Henry
Chapters 13-17 of John's Gospel contain the last teaching of the Lord Jesus before His crucifixion. "Setting the Scene" is Willie Henry's first article in a series dealing with the content of this important discourse.

Young Searchers - Andrew and Andrea Marple
This month's subject for children is colours in the Bible.

God Has Spoke - Brian Sherring
The author begins a series exploring the seven-fold witness of God to mankind which leaves us without excuse regarding knowledge of our Creator and Saviour. The seven ways in which God witnesses to us are: the witness of creation, the stars, conscience, visions and dreams, covenants, the Scriptures and His (God's) Son.

Jesus Christ: the Evidence - Michael Penny
The fourth in a series looking at the evidence for the actual existence of One, Jesus of Nazareth, looks briefly at the record of Josephus.

The Book of Acts - Charles Ozanne
Looking at chapters 23 and 24 in his systematic exposition of the book of Acts, Charles Ozanne deals with Paul's defences before the Sanhedrin and the Caesarean governor, Felix.
