The lack of control of human behaviour lies at the root of many of our problems today. Natural disasters may have a large impact upon some lives, but for most people, human behaviour probably accounts for most of their woes.
It is when laws are broken that human beings are most likely to suffer. Burglary, theft, muggings, even unpleasant neighbours, contribute towards
unhappiness, sometimes leading to serious consequences. Hence it is necessary to have laws with the threat of punishment for failure to keep them.
The Ten Commandments are probably still the best known set of laws in the West. They lie behind our justice system, and in Christian society still form an outline of what God requires of mankind. They are, of course, only an outline, or skeleton, that needs to be explained and expanded, and that is just what the author does and he brings a fresh perspective to a familiar subject.
