Distinguishing between the gifts, which God freely gives to those who have faith in Christ Jesus as their Saviour, and the rewards, which he may give to those works and service merit it, may help us in our understanding of various passages in the New Testament.
The Scriptures speak of such Gifts as forgiveness, salvation, eternal life and righteousness for those who trust in the Lord Jesus. However, Christians have further responsibilities to God and their fellow men. If these responsibilities are discharged faithfully, there is the possibility of reward, a prise and a crown.
