The name “Micah” is a shortened form of “Micaiah” and his name means “Who is like the Lord?” And this question is asked in the prophecy itself. Micah 7:18 says:
"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy."
And that is the thrust of Micah’s prophecy. Although Micah states that the Lord will punish Israel for her idolatry, disobedience and unjust practices, yet He will not forget His covenant promises to the nation. He will show mercy to them and restore them to their land, from where He will rule the world in righteousness.
