Often we read in the New Testament scriptures of something taking place in order to “fulfil” something from the Old Testament scriptures. Our English word “fulfil” lends itself to the ideas of “partial fulfilment” or “dual fulfilment” or even “many fulfilments”.

The author questions whether the Greek verb can lend itself to such usage. He suggest that when we read of something being “fulfilled” in the New Testament, it means that a “fuller” meaning has been given to the Old Testament passage, that there is “filling up” with regard to that particular passage. It is something being made “full” in realization or accomplishment of a purpose.
